Access to health services can aid in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and other conditions. In this dashboard you will find county-level data on where Texans stand with basic health care. There are seven interactive graphics that detail statistics such as: insurance, doctors, hospitals, nurses, dentists and more.

Access and Use

Map data is from the United States Census Bureau 2019 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates. Charts below map data are from the Texas Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS).

Health Care Facilities

Health care facility data is from Licensing, Credentialing, and Regulation within the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Data was accessed online in January 2021. Map data is from Table S2701 "Selected Characteristics of Health Insurance Coverage in the United States." Variables are:

Health Care Providers

Health care provider data is from the Health Professions Resource Center (HPRC) in the Center for Health Statistics at the Texas Department of State Health Services. All data are from September 2020, except for nursing data which are from September 2019.

Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs)

HPSAs presented include those designated and proposed for withdrawal, but not yet withdrawn, as of April 2021.

Data is from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. Data were accessed online in April 2021.
