Texas Center for Nursing Workforce StudiesData Description
Data regarding active Texas registered nurses come from the Texas Board of Nursing's registered nurse relicensure files from 2000-2018. These data are self-reported by nurses when they renew their license every two years and demographic fields are not mandatory. The data represent a snapshot of the nursing workforce in September of each year.
Data regarding pre-licensure RN graduates and pre-licensure RN programs come from the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies and the Texas Board of Nursing"s Nursing Education Program Information Survey for Professional Nursing Programs data files. These data were self-reported by the nursing education programs.
Data regarding nurse employers come from the Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies" 2017 Hospital Nurse Staffing Study, Home Health and Hospice Care Nurse Staffing Study, Long Term Care Nurse Staffing Study, and Texas Governmental Public Health Nurse Staffing Study data files. These data were self-reported by employers of nurses.
Texas population projections come from the Texas Demographic Center"s 2018 Texas Population Projections Data Tool available at demographics.texas.gov/Data/TPEPP/Projections/Tool.
Measure Information
Active Texas registered nurses include all registered nurses with an active Texas license working full-time or part-time in nursing in Texas for the respective year.
Definitions
APRN = Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
BSN = Bachelor of Science in Nursing
IOM = Institute of Medicine
RN = Registered Nurse
TCNWS = Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies
