Data Description

The Quality Indicators (QIs) are a set of indicators that provide a perspective of the quality of care in hospitals and the surrounding area.

Prevention Quality Indicators (PQIs) offer insight into a critical area of health care quality-hospitalizations that may be preventable with adequate preventive care. These hospital admissions for conditions often referred to as ambulatory care sensitive conditions (ACSCs), can potentially be reduced with the timely and effective use of primary care. This report analyzes the Texas Hospital Inpatient Discharge Data for ACSCs and presents information that focuses on assessing the effectiveness of this care.

Important Note

Starting 2015, a significant change in coding systems occurred. Federal requirements necessitated the change in coding systems, from the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) to the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS). The change occurred on October 1, 2015. The change will make the data difficult to utilize and compare between 2016 data and between QI reports from previous years.

Rates not calculated for counties with fewer than 5 admissions.

Hospital Comments

THCIC did not receive any comments from hospitals for year 2019 QI reports.
