This dashboard provides information on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responses and populations served using data reported to the Texas Department of State Health Services EMS and Trauma Registries (EMSTR). Data Description

The data used for this dashboard are EMS patient care records reported to EMSTR. EMSTR collects information submitted electronically by licensed Texas EMS providers in accordance with state reporting requirements. EMS providers must report all EMS responses to EMSTR within 90 calendar days of the date of call for assistance.

EMSTR collects data on EMS responses throughout Texas. An EMS response is defined as a resulting action from a call for assistance where an EMS provider is dispatched to, responds to, provides care to, or transports a person. Reported data include information about patient demographics, location of response, EMS agency characteristics, clinical impressions, procedures, medications, disposition, in addition to transport characteristics and patient outcomes.

Measure Information

EMSTR follows the National EMS Information System (NEMSIS) data dictionary. In November 2023, EMSTR transitioned from NEMSIS version 3.3.4 to version 3.5.0. Therefore, some data elements and response options differ between years.

EMS Responses represent the total number of electronic EMS patient care records reported to EMSTR that meet the selected dashboard criteria.

Population-Based Rates are calculated using Texas population estimates and are displayed per 100,000 population unless otherwise noted.

EMSTR suppresses counts between one and four to protect the identity of the patient.
